[UPDATE week of 9/14]

Students and Parents,

I hope everyone had a great week!

In Foundations of Math 2 this week, we finished up Unit 2, by focusing on solving systems of equations and inequalities.  We learned how to solve systems of equations by using substitution and elimination and we learned how to solve systems of inequalities by graphing.  All of the students are working very hard and I am so proud of each one of them!  We will review all of Unit 2 on Monday and we will take the Unit 2 Test on Tuesday.  On Thursday, we will begin Unit 3, which covers Exponential Rules , Radical Rules, and Exponential Equations.

In Pre-Calculus this week, we began Unit 2 and continued working through it all week.  In this unit, we are focusing on learning about linear, quadratic, power, and polynomial functions, specifically on finding the zeros and graphing them without using a calculator.  We took a quiz on Thursday and those were returned to students today.  The college project was due today.  If your student did not turn it in today, he/she will lose 10 points per day that it is late.  I also gave them their next project, the Universal Language Project.  With the project, each student will choose a word that has particular meaning to them, translate that word into a foreign language and then graph that translated word onto a coordinate plane.  They will then find 5 basic functions within their word and give me the equations and the domains for the functions.  Each student will present their project to the class on October 20-22.  As a reminder, the first checkpoint for the Reference Book is on Wednesday, September 30!  Units 1 and 2 must be done by then.

Remember, the is no school on Wednesday of next week!  Enjoy your day off and have a wonderful weekend!

Best,

Ms. Winstead
