Students and Parents,
Whew this week flew by! Only one more week until midterms!
In Foundations of Geometry this week, we began Unit 3, Similar and Congruent Triangles. We started off with triangles in general and learned to use the sum of the angles in a triangle, vertical angles, and supplementary angles to solve problems. Then we moved into similar triangles. Similar triangles must have proportional sides, so we learned how to set up proportions to find missing side lengths. Lastly this week, we learned about dilations and geometric mean. Students quizzed on this material today. Next week, we will move into congruent triangles. There are 5 postulates that we use to prove that triangles are congruent (SSS, SAS, AAS, ASA, and HL). We will test on this unit next Friday, which is an early elease day.
In Pre Calculus this week, we began Unit 4, Trigonometry!!! We refreshed our memory from Geometry on Sine, Cosine, and Tangent, and then learned about their reciprocals, Cosecant, Secant, and Cotangent. We also learned about Degrees-Minutes-Seconds (DMS) and how to convert between DMS and degrees and vice versa. Yesterday, we learned about the unit circle, which is essentially a circle with radius 1. Every angle has a point (cosx, sinx) and can be referred to in degrees or radians. Next week, we will continue to work on trigonometry and take the test the following Monday, Oct. 21.
Have a great weekend and GO HUSKIES!
